The reaction of ethyl 2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-tosyloxyiminoacetate and its tritylamino analogue with thiols gave ethyl 2-(5-R-thio-2-amino- or tritylamino-thiazol-4-yl)-2-oxoacetate derivatives. Structures were elucidated by ir, ¹H-, ¹³C-nmr and mass spectroscopy. A reaction mechanism is suggested.
