Tetraethyl 2,2-bis(alkylthio)ethenediylidenebisphosphonates are synthesized by an efficient one-pot reaction of the salt of tetraethyl methylenebisphosphonate in tetrahydrofuran with carbon disulfide and alkyl halides. A 1,3-dithietane derivative is obtained with 1,2-dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane.
