Dependimg on the nature of the lakaline medium, the radical addition of perfluoroalkyl iodides to 4-pentenol gives a mixture of 5-(F-alkyl)-4-pentenol and 2-<(F-alkyl)methyl>tetrahydrofuran, or the latter alone.
