A simple synthesis of 2-(aminomethyl)purines is reported. Imidate intermediates are formed by condensation of the Cb-glycine ortho-ester with 4-aminoimidazole-5-carboxylic acid derivatives, and are further cyclized to 2-(Cb-aminomethyl)purines.
