Reactions of either P(CH3)2C6H5 or dmpe (dmpe=(CH3)2PC2H4P(CH3)2) adducts of ZrCl4 with four equivalents of KC5H7 lead to the formation of the respective 16 or 18 electron mono(ligand) adducts of the open zirconocene Zr(C5H7)2.Both complexes were found to exist in the expected symmetric conformations, as confirmed for the dmpe complex by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. Keywords: Zirconium; Phosphines; Pentadienyl; Crystal structure; Early transition metals; Open metallocene
