The synthesis of the 5-aminopentyl glycoside tetrasaccharide β-D-Glcp-(1 → 3)-4,6-carboxyethylidene-β-D-GlcNAcp-(1 → 3)-α-D-Galp-(1 → 4)-β-L-Rhap 20, the repeating unit of the immunodominant capsular polysaccharide of Streptococcus pneumoniae type 27 is described.
