Reaction of p-fluoro-α-methylstyrene with [(η-C₅H₅)Co(η-C₆Me₆)] leads to the cluster complex [{(η-C₅H₅)Co}3( μ₃-η²:η²:η²-p-fluoro-α-methylstyrene)] 1b. Nucleophilic substitution of fluoride by H^- or Ph^- takes place when 1b is treated with LiHBEt₃ or PhLi.
