2-Oxabicyclo<3.3.0>oct-6-en-3-one, the key intermediate in the prostaglandin synthesis, was subjected to the optical resolution effectively by use of lipase after conversion to 2-<2-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)ethyl>-3-cyclopenten-1-yl acetate and 2-<2-(N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl)methyl>-3-cyclopenten-1-yl-acetate.
