A convenient and short synthesis (3 steps, 50% overall yield) of the bifunctional chelating agent 1-(4-aminobenzyl)-1,4,8,11 - tetraazacyclotetradecane - N'-, N''-, N'''- triacetic acid (4) via a boron- protection strategy is reported.
