By use of appropriate reactions and sequence of steps, 2,5- dimethoxybenzaldehyde can be converted either to 4-(bromo or iodo)-2,5- dimethoxybenzonitrile or 2-(bromo or iodo)-3,6-dimethoxybenzonitrile.
