The capsular polysaccharide from Klebsiella K4 contains the tetrasaccharide repeating-sequence <*>3)-α-D-Glcp-(1<*>2)-α-D-GlcpA-(1<*>3)-α-D-Manp-(1<*>3)-β-D-Glcp-(1<*>.P.m.r. spectroscopy and the measurement of optical rotation were used to establish the anomeric linkages in the polysaccharide and in the oligosaccharides derived by partial hydrolysis.The repeating unit also contains one O-acetyl group.
