temperature, diluted with methanol, and the solution
evaporated to dryness. The residue was placed on a silica gel
column and eluted with CH2Cl2 to remove t-butylbenzene.
Further elution gave unaltered 1-[(Z)-2-iodo-3-phenylprop-2-
enyl]-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridine-2-carbonitrile (25 mg, 15%)
and 11H-indolizino[1,2-b]quinolin-9-one (80 mg, 73%). m.p.
253-254 °C (EtOH) (lit.,24 265 °C). 1H NMR 5.28 (s, 2 H,
11-CH2), 6.73-6.77 (m, 1 H, 8-H), 7.27-7.34 (m, 2 H, 6,7-H),
7.69 (m, 1 H), 7.90 (m, 1 H), 7.93 (m, 1 H), 8.23 (m, 1 H), 8.37
(m, 1 H); 13C NMR 49.91 (11-CH2), 100.88, 120.53, 127.66,
128.02, 128.07, 140.36, 128.57, 129.65, 130.33,
130.84,146.13, 148.83, 152.97, 161.55; m/z (EI) 234, 205,
178, 151, 140, 128, 115, 105, 91, 75, 63, 55, 49 and 43. HRMS
C15H19N2O+H requires: 235.0871; found: 235.0870.
C15H10N2O (234.26) calcd. C 76.91, H 4.30, N 11.96%; found
C 76.5, H 4.1, N 11.9.
