We report the synthesis of the pharmaceutically interesting 5H-<1>benzoselenino<2,3-b>pyridine ring system by UV irradiation of 2-substituted Se-(4-methyl)phenyl selenonicotinates via selenolester-seleninone-transformation or intramolecular photo-Friedel-Crafts-reaction, respectively.
