On treatment of N-alkyl-N-(3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-yl)-hydroxylamines with carboxylic anhydrides or chlorides an oxidoreductive rearrangement is observed in the presence of protons that leads to 1,4-benzodiazepines bearing the acylated hydroxylaminic oxyge
