Irradiation of 2-aroyl-3-arylnorbornadiene derivatives (1) afforded the corresponding quadricyclane derivatives (2) in good chemical yields and with excellent efficiencies (φ=0.3-0.6).The quadricyclanes were converted to the original norbornadienes by treatment with trifluoroacetic acid, silver perchlorate, and silica gel, or by heating.
