S-Alkylation of 2-CS2)(PPh3)> (M=Pd, Pt) is achieved using stoichiometric amounts of the 'hard' alkylating agents and CF3SO2OMe, while MeI or 1,2-diiodoethane give <(Ph3P)2(I)Pt(μ-CS2)Pt(PPh3)2>I and <(Ph3P)2(I)Pt(μ-CS2)Pt(I)PPh3>, respectively.Protonation of 2-CS2)(CO)2L2> (L=PMe2Ph, PPh3) affords extremely labile complexes containing the novel η²-CS2H ligand.The first cationic η²:η¹-CS2 bridged dinuclear complexes (L=PMe2Ph, PPh3) serve as models for the assumed intermediate in the formation of metallodithiocarboxylato(S,S') metal compounds.
