The carbon-oxygen bond cleavage of epoxides, (1) and (3), was photochemically sensitized by 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate in methylene chloride to give carbonyl compounds, (2) and (4), with high efficiency (Φ>1) respectively.The reaction effiency was strongly dependent on solvents and counter ions of the sensitizer.
