Two 'new' furanosesquiterpene ketones, (+)-myomontanone<4S-(β-furanyl)<4-methyl-2-(2'-methylpropyl)cyclopent-1-en-1-yl>methanone> and the corresponding endocyclic β,γ-enone constitute 70percent and 3percent of the essential oil of the leaves of Myoporum montanum, and are shown to be the kinetic aldol condensation products of (+)-myoporone, also present (22percent) in the oil.
