Three binding modes, A, B, and C, have been observed resulting from the interaction of terminal acetylenes HCCR with trimetal clusters. The sequence A yields B yields C is a cluster-mediated acetylene yields vinylidene rearrangement. So far the sequence has not been realized for one acetylene on one cluster, and to the authors knowledge only an A yields B interconversion has been reported, as in Os//3(CO)//1//0(HCCR) yields HOs//3(CO)//9(CCR) left bracket 2 right bracket . The authors now report what they believe to be an A yields C interconversion.
