A synthesis of (+/-)-7-exo-(n-butyloxy)-2-oxa-6-thiabicyclo<3.1.1>heptane (4) from 2-(benzyloxy)-5,6-dihydropyran (5) (Scheme I) and the conversion of levoglucosan 20 into 36 (Scheme IV) are described.Compound 36 is an intermediate in a published synthesis (Scheme III) of the biologically active 9α,11α-thiathromboxane A2 methyl ester (19).
