Investigations on a Cycloheptatriene-Norcaradiene Equilibrium Observable at Room Temperature

Analytical data of the bridged quinone hydrazones 7a, 8a, 7b, 8b, 7c, 8c are discussed.These products exist as tautomeric mixtures of their norcaradiene- and cycloheptatriene forms.The rate constants of these isomerations are so small that the 1H- and 13C-NMR signals of the tautomers are well-resolved.Kinetic and thermodynamic variables were determined by temperture-dependent 1H-NMR, measurements.
