Jeediflavanone-a biflavonoid from Semecarpus anacardium

A new biflavonoid, jeediflavanone, has been isolated recently from the alcoholic extract of the nut shells of Semecarpus anacardium. It was dehydrogenated with iodine and potassium acetate in acetic acid to the corresponding, relatively more stable biflavone SA5. The solvent induced methoxy shift studies of SA5 heptamethyl ether confirmed the interflavonoid linkage as well as the structure of jeediflavanone. Chemical, ¹H NMR and mass spectroscopic evidence are presented in support of the structures of both jeediflavanone and SA5.
