[MoCl₃(NCCH₃)₃] reacts with an excess of 2,4,6-tri-isopropylthiophenolate in acetonitrile to give [Mo(SC ₆H₂Prⁱ₃-2,4,6)₄(NCCH ₃)] where molybdenum has been oxidized. An X-ray crystal structure determination revealed a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry about molybdenum with a CH₃CN group occupying an apical site.
