The reactions of mono- and di-hydruro-zirconocenes and -hafnocenes with diphenylacetylene are studied under hydrogenation conditions but without external hydrogen.Under the influence of the hydride present in the reaction mixture, isomerisation of the cis-stilbene intermediate into trans-stilbene takes place.The results obtained offer an explanation of the stereochemistry difference observed in catalytic hydrogenations using the catalysts mentioned above.
