Dithioacetalization of carbonyl compounds was performed efficiently in CH₂Cl₂ at room temperature in the presence of MoCl₅. Highly selective transdithioacetalization of acetals was also catalyzed efficiently by this catalyst. MoCl₅ performed non-hydrolytic deprotection of dithioacetals in the presence of dry DMSO.
