The infrared multiple-photon photolysis of trans-2-butene was investigated at five CO2 wavelenghts from 942 to 1031 cm-1 and at conversions from a few percent to approximately 95 percent.The reaction products at 50 mTorr and fluences of approximately 125 J/cm2 were cis-2-butene, ethylene, ethane, propylene, propyne, 1,3-butadiene, 1-butene and 2-butyne.Relative product yields of cis-2-butene and propyne varied significantly with both wavelenght and conversion.The results of an investigation of the observed product selectivity are presented.
