In the reactions catalyzed with commercial Pt/C and Pd/C, we
used 1 mg of 10% Pd/C (0.9 μmol; 0.06 mmol Pd/L solution) or
4 mg of 5% Pt/C (1 μmol; 0.07 mmol Pt/L solution) in 15 mL of
water and in presence of 0.3 mmol of allyl alcohol (20 mM).
In a preliminary test, a 2,4-dimethyl-3-pentanol solution (5 mL)
of glycerol (5 mmol) and methyltrioxorhenium catalyst (0.1
mmol) held at 140 °C was purged continuously with hydrogen
and the gas phase, which contained 2-propen-1-ol, was
collected in a cold water trap (100 mL) in the presence of Pt
