2-Alkenoic acids may be prepared in good yields from saturated aldehydes via α-selenenylation with 4-(phenylseleno)morpholine <(benzeneseleno)morpholide> formed in situ, followed by hydrogen peroxide oxidation.The actual oxidizing agent is benzeneperseleninic acid which is formed in the reaction medium.
