Aromatic and aliphatic α-haloketones are reductively dehalogenated effectively to the corresponding ketones with sodium bromide, sodium chloride (sodium halides), sodium thiocyanate, or sodium cyanate (pseudo halides) in combination with metal halides in aqueous tetrahydrofuran by heating under reflux for 2 h.
