Formation of TiB2 by mechanical alloying

Mechanical alloying is conducted by milling two or more elementary components in a high energy environment. As a starting material, a mixture of 68.88 wt.% Ti (purity 99.8%, average particle size 40 μm) and 31.12 wt.% (purity 98.8%, average particle size 20 μm) was used. The hexagonal structure lattice parameters are a = 3.03 angstrom and c = 3.22 angstrom, a scanning electron micrograph of MA TiB₂, the powder size varies from 0.1 to 3.0 μm.
