catalyzed etherification of diosgenyl ortho-hexynylbenzoates with
diverse sugar alcohols. The reaction has a broad substrate scope
and an excellent functional group tolerance. Given the abundance
of 3β-hydroxy-Δ5-steroid-based saponins and their biological
relevance, the developed method should be useful in the synthesis
of structurally diverse analogs of natural saponins that would
provide information regarding the SAR for the related drug
development.
