3. Conclusion
In conclusion, we have employed UHV techniques to produce
ligand-free and isolated tantalum oxide moieties (Ta1) and

tantalum clusters (Tan>1) on silicate support. The bare Ta1 10.
atoms performed as active catalyst for the selective

The applicability of UHV-synthesized catalysts in industry is
currently limited by the difficulty to apply the employed
preparative methodology in a large scale and to the existence
of well-known material gaps between UHV conditions and the
actual industrial scenarios.52 Nevertheless, this study suggests
that the generation of truly isolated, bare metal oxo units by
non-conventional techniques might lead to highly active
catalytic systems. This target should be further pursued by the
development of methodologies able to afford independent
control on particle size, metal loading and dispersion.53
