Fe^II(TPP) (TPP = tetraphenylporphyrin) in the presence of an excess of sodium dithionite, reacts with CF3CCl3 and halothane CF3CHClBr, leading respectively to the carbene Fe^II (TPP)(CClCF3) and ?-alkyl-Fe^III(TPP)(CHClCF3) complexes, the latter being the first isolated ?-alkyl-Fe^III(porphyrin) complex involving a halogen substituent on the carbon bound to iron.
