by the addition of 5% HCl (1 mL) and H2O (5 mL). The organic

extracted with dichloromethane. The organic extracts were
combined, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated. Flash column

9-Dih yd r oba cca tin III (4). Methyllithium (60 µL, 1.4 M
solution in ethyl ether, 87 µmol) was added in a dropwise
manner to a solution of 13-acetyl-9-dihydrobaccatin III (2)
(0.0084 g, 13.3 µmol) in THF (1.5 mL), which had been cooled
to -78 °C. The reaction was then stirred for 2 h at -78 °C.
The reaction was quenched by addition of H2O (2 mL) followed
by EtOAc (3 mL). The organic layer was separated and the
aqueous layer once again extracted with EtOAc. The organic
extracts were combined, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated.
