A detailed procedure for the preparation of butadiyne

Butadiyne, HC ≡ CC ≡ CH, can be obtained in yields up to ~90% by adding 1,4-dichloro-2-butyne, ClCH₂C ≡ CCH₂Cl at ~70°C to a mixture of concentrated aqueous potassium hydroxide and dimethylsulfoxide.
