Perfluoroalkanesulfonic anhydrides (R_FSO2)2O when mixed with acids decompose into perfluoroalkanesulfonic esters R_FSO2OR_F, thereby providing a new facile synthesis of these esters from perfluoroalkanesulfonic acids and phosphorus pentoxide.
