Syntheses and characterization of chloro(Me2SO)ruthenium(II) complexes with tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine or N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)glycinate and their application for catalytic hydroxylation of alkane

The new ruthenium(II) complexes, [RuCl(Me₂SO)(TPA)]X (X = Cl or PF₆) and [Ru(BPG)Cl(Me₂SO)] were prepared, and the catalytic activity for alkane hydroxylation using m-chloroperbenzoic acid was examined.₂ Two geometrical isomers of the TPA complexes were isolated and showed marked difference in activity: the trans(Cl, N_amino) isomer is the most active and selective catalyst toward the oxygenation of adamantane giving 1-adamantanol (75%) and 2-adamantanol (5%).
