(Dansyldiazomethyl)phosphinates: Fluorescent Reagents for Photoaffinity Labeling

Esters and thioesters of (dansyldiazomethyl)methylphosphinic acid (1) have been prepared and photolyzed; photolysis leads to high yields of the product of insertion into solvent.The reagents have excellent potential for photoaffinity labeling since they are highly fluorescent, can easily be prepared with high specific radioactivity (36 Ci/mmol), and have large (4000 M^-1cm^-1) extinction coefficients at long wavelengths (350 nm).
