The photochamical carbonyl substitution reaction of Re2(CO)10 with P(OPh)3 was studied under vacuum.Using mass, 31P NMR and IR spectroscopic data, four well-characterized new products, in addition to a mononuclear hydride mer-HRe(CO)3
2; were obtained: 1-ax-2',4'-di-eq-Re2(CO)7
3; 1,1'-di-ax-2,2'-di-eq-Re2(CO)6
4; 2,2',4,4'-tetra-eq-Re2(CO)6
4 and 1,1'-di-ax-2,2'-di-eq-2,2',4,4'-tetra-eq-Re2(CO)4
6.The isolated highly substituted metal carbonyl products are the isomers with favorable steric repulsive interactions among the triphenyl phosphite ligands.
