Preparation of Phosphorus oxychloride: it is prepared by the reaction of phosphorus trichloride with oxygen at the temperature of 20-50 °C.
2 PCl3 + O2 → 2 O=PCl3
When you are using this chemical, please be cautious about it. As a chemical, it is harmful if swallowed and very toxic by inhalation. When contacting with water, it liberates toxic gas and it can cause severe burns. Furthermore, it has danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation. During using it, wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. Keep container tightly closed and dry. If contact with eyes accidently, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. In case of accident or if you feel unwell seek medical advice immediately.
