  • Effects of Long Term Exposure:Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. Repeated or prolonged inhalation may cause effects on the lungs. This may result in reduced lung function .
  • General Description Zinc hydride (ZnH2), also known as zinc dihydride, is an unstable compound with limited thermal stability, prompting research into more stable organozinc hydride complexes for use as reducing agents in organic synthesis. A study on a β-diketiminate-stabilized zinc hydride complex demonstrated improved stability, existing as a monomer in solution and exhibiting polymorphic solid-state structures with hydridic character enhanced by THF coordination. This suggests that ligand stabilization can mitigate the inherent instability of ZnH2 while retaining its reactivity.

Solid-state and solution studies on a β-diketiminate zinc hydride complex

10.1515/znb-2009-11-1221

The research study on the synthesis, characterization, and structural analysis of a β-diketiminate zinc hydride complex, [MesnacnacZn(μ-H)]2 (1), which was prepared by reacting MesnacnacZnI with either KNH(iPr)BH3 or an excess of NaH. The purpose of the study was to develop more stable organozinc hydrides as reducing reagents in organic chemistry, given the low thermal stability of ZnH2. The complex was characterized using multinuclear NMR and IR spectroscopy, as well as X-ray diffraction, revealing two polymorphs of the complex with their structures determined from single crystals. The conclusions drawn from the study indicate that the synthesized complex is monomeric in solution and exhibits different structural features in two polymorphic forms, with the zinc-hydrogen group showing a stronger hydridic character when coordinated with a THF solvent molecule.
