Preparation of Sodium thioglycolate: it can be prepared by thioethanolate. Cool the thioethanolate to 5 °C at first. Then add sodium hydroxide solution into the thioethanolate slowly with stirring. When the solution becomes pink and separates stable crystallization, you can stop adding the sodium hydroxide. At last, after a series of cooling, filtration, crystallization and drying you can get the desired product. The equation is as follows:
Uses of Sodium thioglycolate: it can be used as analytics reagents for the determination of iron, molybdenum, silver and tin. And it can be used in preparation of bacteria culture. In addition, it can react with phenylhydrazono-malononitrile to get [cyano-(phenyl-hydrazono)-acetimidoylsulfanyl]-acetic acid. This reaction will need solvents methanol and H2O. The reaction time is 2 hours. The pH value of the reaction solution is 7. The yield is about 80%.
