Stannic oxide Specification

The Stannic oxide, with the cas registry number 18282-10-5, has the systematic name of dioxostannane. This is a kind of white or off-white powder and it is insoluble in water, alcohol, aqua regia while soluble in sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide. This chemical belongs to the product categories which are the Inorganics. While using it, remember to avoid contacting with skin and eyes.

The characteristics of Stannic oxide are as follows: (1)#H bond acceptors: 2; (2)#H bond donors: 0; (3)Polar Surface Area: 34.14; (4)Exact Mass 151.892026; (5)MonoIsotopic Mass 151.892026; (6)Topological Polar Surface Area 34.1; (7)Heavy Atom Count 3; (8)Complexity 18.3; (9)Covalently-Bonded Unit Count 1.

Preparation of Stannic oxide: Firstly, melt the cleaned block tin, and then pour in slowly cold water to make the tin pieces; Secondly, add tin pieces into the nitric acid which had been diluted to react till nitrogen oxide stops to escape, with no tin left; Thirdly, suck off the clear solution to use again, and then wash the stannic β-acid with boiling water and next use ionized water to wash till metal and heavy metal analysis is qualified; Lastly, after the dehydration, dry with temp. 120℃, burn at 1250℃, and then smash and sieving to get the products. The reaction process according to the below chemcial equation: 3Sn+4HNO3+H2O→3H2SnO3+4NO↑ H2SnO3[△]→SnO2+H2O.

Uses of Stannic oxide: As to its usage, it is widely applied in many ways. It could be used to make pinksalt, and also in pigment industry to produce pigment, such as pink, off-white, yellow, goldpurple; It could be then used in the colorant for ceramics and enamel, in glass metal polish; It could be very useful while applied to be as fabric mordant and loading agent in dye industry. Besides, it could be used in organic synthesis catalytic agent, and also in electric industry.
