Reaction Procedure

a. Combine the starting material (with the activated nitro group) and the phenylthiol in the chosen solvent. b. Stir or mix the reaction mixture under the specified temperature conditions. c. The activated nitro group (usually a nitro group that's meta to the substituent) will undergo an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction with the phenylthiol. The nitro group is replaced by the phenylthio group.
