Uses

1. Sedation: such as anxiety, irritability, hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, functional nausea, pyloric spasm embolism in children.
2. Hypnosis: even for refractory insomnia, but often after waking fatigue, sleepiness and other lingering effects.
3. Anticonvulsant: Sodium luminal (CAS NO: 57-30-7) is used to combat the poisoning or high fever caused by central stimulant, tetanus, encephalitis, brain hemorrhage and other diseases caused by convulsions.
4. Epilepsy: Sodium luminal (CAS NO: 57-30-7) is used for prevention and treatment of grand mal epilepsy,but also can be used for status epilepticus.
5. Anesthetic administration.
6. compatibility with antipyretic analgesics to enhance its role.
7. The treatment of neonatal kernicterus.

Specification

1.General Description: Odorless white crystalline powder. Aqueous solutions are alkaline to litmus and phenolphthalein (pH approximately 9.3). Bitter taste. A narcotic.
2.Air & Water Reactions :Hygroscopic. May be sensitive to prolonged exposure to air. Water soluble. Aqueous solutions are unstable, but may be kept at or below 50°F for a few days.
3.Reactivity Profile: Phenobarbital sodium can react with strong oxidizing agents. Incompatible with ammonium salts and chloral hydrate. Also incompatible with acids and acidic substances .
4.Fire Hazard :Flash point data for Phenobarbital sodium are not available; however, Phenobarbital sodium is probably combustible.
