L1Ga {L1 = HC[C(Me)N(2,6-iPr2C6H3)]2} reversibly reacts with E2Ph4 (E = Sb, Bi) in a temperature-dependent equilibrium reaction with insertion into the E-E bond and formation of L1Ga(EPh2)2 (E = Sb 1, Bi 2). Analogous findings were observed in the reactions of L2Ga {L2 = (C6H11)2NC[N(2,6-iPr2C6H3)]2} with E2R4 (R = Ph, Et), yielding L2Ga(EPh2)2 (E = Sb 3, Bi 4) and L2Ga(EEt2)2 (E = Sb 5, Bi 6). 1-3 and 5 were isolated by fractional crystallization at low temperature, whereas 4 and 6 could not be isolated in their pure form even at low temperature. In contrast, reactions of [Cp?Al]4 (Cp? = C5Me5) with Sb2R4 (R = Ph, Et) and Bi2Et4 did not proceed with insertion into the E-E bonds but with formation of (Cp?Al)3E2 (E = Sb, 7; Bi, 8), whereas the reaction with Bi2Ph4 yielded metallic bismuth. 8 was also formed in the reaction of [Cp?Al]4 and BiEt3 at ambient temperature, whereas the analogous reaction of [Cp?Al]4 with SbEt3 did not yield 7 even under drastic reaction conditions (120 °C, 3 days). In contrast, Cp?Ga and Sb2R4 (R = Ph, Et) were found to react only at elevated temperature (120 °C) with formation of antimony metal.

Oxidative addition across sb-h and sb-sb bonds by an osmium carbonyl cluster: Trapping the intermediate

Li, Ying-Zhou,Ganguly, Rakesh,Leong, Weng Kee

, p. 823 - 828 (2014/03/21)

The cluster Os3(CO)11(NCCH3) oxidatively adds across the Sb-H bond in SbPh2H to afford the clusters Os 3(CO)11(H)(μ-SbPh2) and Os 3(CO)11(μ-H)(μ-SbPh2)Os 3(CO)11. Similarly, its reaction with Sb 2Ph4 afforded Os3(CO)11(μ- SbPh2)2Os3(CO)11 as the major product. In both cases, the intermediate from the oxidative addition reaction was trapped as a W(CO)5 adduct.

Syntheses and structures of isopropyl- and (bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl)antimony rings and catena-tri- and catena-tetrastibanes by reaction of organoantimony rings with distibanes

Ates, Mustafa,Breunig, Hans J.,Ebert, Klaus,Gülec, Sabahittin,Kaller, Rose,Dr?ger, Martin

, p. 145 - 150 (2008/10/08)

The syntheses and the structures of selected organoantimony rings (RSb)n and the formation of catena-stibanes by reaction of organoantimony rings with distibanes are reported. The syntheses include the preparation of i-PrSbBr2 and the reaction of this intermediate with magnesium to form (i-PrSb)4 and (i-PrSb)5. The isopropylantimony rings are stable in solution but polymerize in the absence of solvent. [(Me3Si)2CHSb]4 is, however, stable in the solid state with respect to polymerization. This four-membered ring has been obtained in the form of orange crystals from a solution of the dehalogenation products of the corresponding dichloride. The 1H NMR data of (i-PrSb)4 and (i-PrSb)5 in solution are in accordance with the cyclic structures with the substituents adopting a maximum of trans positions. The structure of [(Me3Si)2CHSb]4 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractometry as that of a strongly folded cyclotetrastibane (115.4°) in the all-trans configuration. The Sb-Sb distances alternate between short and long (2.83, 2.87 A?), and the molecule on the whole approximates C2 symmetry. The crystal data with Mo Kα radiation are as follows: triclinic, space group P1, a = 12.361 (1) A?, b = 12.981 (1) A?, c = 17.337 (2) A?, α = 108.18 (1)°, β = 90.82 (1)°, γ = 102.82 (1)°, Z = 2, and R = 0.0362. The study of the reactivity of organoantimony rings with distibanes led to the formation of the first examples of catena-tri- and catene-tetrastibanes. The tristibanes (Me2Sb)2SbR, with R = Et, Pr, t-Bu, [Me3Si]2CH, and 2,4,6-Me3C6H2, are formed by reaction of an excess of Me4Sb2 with the corresponding rings (RSb)n. Action of an excess of Et4Sb2 with (EtSb)5 or (PrSb)5 gives (Et2Sb)2SbEt or (Et2Sb)2SbPr. (Ph2Sb)2SbEt and (Ph2SbSbEt)2 are formed by the reaction of Ph4Sb2 with (EtSb)5. catena-Stibanes derived from difficulty accessible antimony rings are better obtained by dehalogenation of appropriate mixtures of organoantimony bromides or by salt elimination; Me2SbBr and MeSbBr2 react with magnesium to give (Me2Sb)2SbMe, and Ph5Sb3 is obtained by reaction of PhSbCl2 and Ph2SbLi or Ph2SbNa in liquid NH3. The novel catena-tri- and catena-tetrastibanes have been characterized by 1H NMR and mass spectra. They exist in equilibrium with distibanes and cyclostibanes.

Tetraphenyldibismuthine has been prepared by reducing BiPh2I with bis (cyclopentadienyl)-cobalt(II).CoCp2, the former being produced in situ in THF solution from BiPh3 and BiI3 (2:1 molar ratio) or from BiPh3 and I2; also, bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)cobalt(II), CoCp2, reduces BiPh2Cl to Bi2Ph4 in THF solution. The bismuth(III) bromides Bi(p-tolyl)2Br or BiMe2Br have been reduced by CoCp2 to the corresponding dibismuthines, Bi2(p-tolyl)4 or Bi2Me4.Reduction by CoCp2 of the chloro derivatives of bismuth(III) and antimony(III), EPh2Cl produces E2Ph4 and the ionic CoCp2 complexes as by-products.The crystal and molecular structure of the antimony derivative CoCp2 was solved by X-ray diffraction methods.Crystal data: monoclinic, space group P21, a = 8.856(3), b = 16.245(5), c = 7.770(3) Angstroem, β = 109.67(5) deg, Z = 2, R = 0.0396.Similar to Bi2Ph4, Sb2Ph4 undergoes reactions across the element-element bond with p-benzoquinone and diazomethane to the corresponding insertion products (Ph2Sb)2O2C6H4 and (Ph2Sb)2CH2, respectively.

Tetraphenyl derivatives of phosphorus, arsenic, and antimony: Exchange reaction and reduction. Crystal and molecular structure of [(C4H8O2)NaAsPh2]n, an extended array containing substantially linear Na-As-Na bonds

Belforte, Antonio,Calderazzo, Fausto,Morvillo, Antonino,Pelizzi, Giancarlo,Vitali, Dario

, p. 1504 - 1508 (2008/10/08)

The tetraphenyl derivatives of phosphorus(II) and arsenic(II) P2Ph4 and As2Ph4 were found to undergo a relatively fast exchange reaction to the mixed product Ph2PAsPh2, and the corresponding equilibria were studied in benzene, diethyl ether, and chloroform. By measurements of equilibrium constants at different temperatures in benzene as solvent, the reaction was found to be slightly endothermic (ΔH° = 1.3 ± 0.3 kcal/mol of mixed product formed) with a positive entropy contribution (ΔS° = +3.5 ± 1.0 eu). The corresponding phosphorus and antimony compounds P2Ph4 and Sb2Ph4 undergo exchange to an even lower extent, presumably due to an even more endothermic character of the reaction. Crystal data: C16H18AsNaO2, Mr = 340.23, orthorhombic, a = 10.280 (1) A?, b = 15.053 (2) A?, c = 10.735 (1) A?, Z = 4, d(calcd) = 1.360 g·cm-3. The structure consists of an alternating sequence of dioxane-coordinated sodium atoms and Ph2As groups, giving rise to infinite -Na-As-Na-As- chains parallel to [100]. The chains are almost linear (173.6 (1)°) at arsenic and bent (121.5 (1)°) at sodium. The geometry around arsenic approximates closely that of a trigonal bipyramid. An electron deficient 2e-3c bond involving arsenic and sodium is suggested, which appears to account also for solvation by more polar solvents such as tetrahydrofuran.

Reduction of Butyl- and Phenylantimony(III) Bromides and of t-Butylantimony(III) Chlorides with Magnesium in the Presence of Trimethylchlorosilane: Competition of Sb-Sb and Sb-Si Coupling

Breunig, Hans Joachim,Severengiz, Tevfik

, p. 395 - 400 (2007/10/02)

Butylantimony(III) bromides react with Mg in tetrahydrofuran (THF) even in presence of Me3SiCl exclusively with Sb-Sb-coupling: Starting from Bu2SbBr, Bu2SbSbBu2 is formed and BuSbBr2 is reduced to (BuSb)x.Sb-Si-coupling dominates in the reactions of Ph2SbBr or t-Bu2SbCl with Mg/Me3SiCl/THF yielding Ph2SbSiMe3 or t-Bu2SbSiMe3.Both Sb-Sb- and Sb-Si-coupling reactions are observed, when PhSbBr2 reacts with Mg and Me3SiCl yielding PhSb(SiMe3)2 and (PhSb)x.The same reactants can also form the distibanes Ph2(SiMe3)2Sb2 and PhSb(SiMe3)3Sb2.The reaction of t-BuSbCl2 with Mg/Me3SiCl yields the stibines t-BuSb(SiMe3)2 and Sb(SiMe3)3 together with (t-BuSb)4.In the reactions of t-BuSbCl2 or PhSbBr2 the ratio of Sb-Sb- and Sb-Si-coupling can be strongly influenced by using different reaction conditions. - Keywords: Diphenyl(trimethylsilyl)stibine, Phenylbis(trimethylsilyl)stibine, Di-tert-butyl(trimethylsilyl)stibine, tert-Butyl-bis(trimethylsilyl)stibine

Synthesis of Tetraorganodistibanes and Oxidative Cleavage to Bis(diorganoantimony) Oxides and Sulfides

Breunig, Hans Joachim,Jawad, Hussain

, p. 1104 - 1108 (2007/10/02)

The tetraorganodistibanes Pr4Sb2 and Ph4Sb2 were prepared by dehalogenation of the corresponding diorganoantimony bromides with magnesium in tetrahydrofuran.Mass spectra show that the distibanes Me4Sb2, Et4Sb2 and i-Pr4Sb2 react with air to yield the compounds of the formula R4Sb2O (R = Me, Et, i-Pr), which are assumed to be bis(diorganoantimony)oxides. The species (Me2Sb)2O is also formed by hydrolysis of Me2SbBr.Ir and 1H NMR data of this oxide confirm the proposed structure. The distibanes R4Sb2 (R = Me, Et, Pr, Ph) react quantitatively with sulfur to yield the corresponding bis(diorganoantimony)sulfides (R2Sb)2S, as derived from ms, 1H NMR and IR data.Ms data of the distibanes R4Sb2 (R = Me, Et, i-Pr, Bu, Ph) are reported and discussed. - Key words: Tetrapropyldistibane, Tetraphenyldistibane, Bis(dimethylantimony)sulfide, Bis(diethylantimony)sulfide, Bis(dipropylantimony)sulfide
