    Oxidation of aromatic compounds to cis-dihydrodiols is  catalyzed by multicomponent bacterial dioxygenases  (Figure 1).[1,2] These reactions are of special interest,  since cis-dihydrodiols are valuable buildingblocks for  the stereoselective synthesis of molecules containing multiple chiral centers.
