The liquid scintillation counting of 45Ca in biological material with a new scintillant, insta-gel (cas 11139-93-8), has been tested. Aqueous acid solutions of carcass, urine and faecal containing 45Ca and up to 50 mg of stable calcium were mixed with Insta-Gel with little or no quenching effect. Non-treated human and rats' serum was also mixed with Insta-Gel and the 45Ca estimated. Counting efficiencies of up to 80 per cent were obtained. The advantages of the method are discussed.
