The photon interaction properties of two zirconium alloys (zircaloy-2 and excel zirconium alloy) have been studied in this work by using WinXCom program in the energy range 1 keV to 100 MeV. The mass attenuation coefficient, partial interaction, effective atomic number and electron density were calculated and compared. The results show the mass attenuation coefficient and electron density of zircaloy-2 and excel zirconium alloy were close but the effective atomic number of zircaloy-2 show the greater value than that of excel zirconium alloy. These results show the high potential of zircaloy-2 and excel alloy for radiation shielding applications.
