Some methyl- and phenyl-substituted 2,3-dihydro- and 2,3.4,5-tetrahydro-1H-1,5-benzodiazepines and 1,5-benzothiazepines are described: new examples are reported and some preparative routes revised. The compounds are characterized by their vibrational and electronic spectra and mass spectral fragmentation paths are assigned.
